Ask any body builder who trains for size the same question and I am sure you will receive the same answer as to what their dreams or goals are. Body builders want to be big so that their bodies can become a showpiece to go on display in body building competitions, and why not – wouldn’t anyone with a fine physique as such do exactly the same

Motivation and a passion for the sport is what will encourage a body builder to train for size. When in training for size - mass building techniques will be used. No two people are the same so therefore certain methods maybe carried out differently from that of other individuals. What develops size for one may not for another? We are all humans consisting of the same physiology, but however in saying that we have to remember that our responses to various stimuli can vary. Under supervision and guidance from a professional have a dummy run first to find the best method suited to you.

Reps need to be purely focused upon at this stage - to train for size (reps 4-8).

As good as they say that the 1-3 rep is for strength, it is not always the best rep range for size. When the body builder trains for reps of 1-3 they are strengthening the tendons, ligaments and central nervous systems, however at this point you have to remember, that the lifter is not working on hypertrophy enough to instigate growth and development. What is the best solution to cause growth? Is a question raised by many wannabes, (Beginners?)

In general terms the 4-8 rep range stimulates the muscle instead of the tendons and ligaments. This means that the 4-8 rep range is the best way to train to develop and grow in size.

Dedicated and determined body builders will give it their all when in training with the 4-8 range. You may notice that power lifters will start by practising the reps of 1-3 just for peaking. Bodybuilders will try to get as high of a max as possible in the 4-8 range.

Whatever workout a body builder performs at any time will always be strenuous so therefore the training will never be hurried. If you are looking to train for size then it is in your best interest to speak to someone in the know. Go along to your local gym and take it from there.
